Arkansas Child Support Laws
Arkansas child support is based upon guidelines for the calculation of support. The amount arrived at by applying the guidelines is presumptively correct unless it is determined by the Court that the amount is unjust or inappropriate. In determining whether the award is unjust orinappropriate, the court will consider the following factors:
-
any necessary medical, dental, or psychological care or insurance;
-
the creation or maintenance of trust fund for the child;
-
day care expenses;
-
extraordinary time spent with the non-custodial parent; and
-
any additional support provided by the parent obligated to pay support.
Arkansas child support terminates upon the child's 18th birthday or when the child graduates fromhigh school. Parents cannot be ordered to pay for their child's college education.
